Plan 9 Terminal

The terminal provides the user-interface. All terminals provide a keyboard, mouse and bitmapped graphics display.

The Plan 9 terminal's function is somewhere between that of an X terminal and a workstation. Unlike an X terminal it does real work (usually all editing and many programs run in the terminal), but unlike a workstation "heavy" jobs are not run in the terminal, but are run on the cpu server.

This means the terminal spares the CPU server of nearly all the mundane user interface processing, but does not require an expensive fast processor.
